The automotive ford promised this Thursday that before the end of the year there will be Argentina five electric vehicles in five different segments, on the sidelines of the 59th Colloquium of the Institute for Business Development of Argentina (IDEA), which is being held until Friday in Mar del Plata.
“Before the end of October, Ford’s first electric car arrives, the Mustang Mach,” to Argentina, said the president of Ford Argentina, Martín Galdeano, at a press conference.
Galdeano promised that “before the end of the year” A commercial car will also enter the Argentine market “100% electric”.
Hence “At the end of the year, there will be five electrified vehicles in five different segments in Argentina,” he pointed.
The entry of electric vehicles into Argentina is part of the arrival of this type of car to South America in 2023 – of the Mustang Mach-E sports car, the commercial E-Transit and the Maverick Hybrid pickup – and the launches of the new Kuga Hybrid and the F-150 Hybrid.
The entry of these vehicles into Argentina takes place in a context of strong macroeconomic imbalances deepened by the electoral context, due to the presidential elections on October 22.
One of the tensions is the lack of foreign currency in Argentina, which implies that the Government controls the delivery of dollars to pay for imports.
Galdeano said that the “conversation” of Ford Argentina with the Argentine Government has been the “decision to extend payment terms for imports of finished units” for “prioritize” the import of inputs and thus be able to continue producing – half is with imported parts and the other half, with Argentine companies that manufacture parts – and exporting.
Regarding the ‘stock’ of parts due to import restrictions, Galdeano stated that Ford is “managing week by week.”
Regarding an eventual devaluation expected by the market for this last quarter that could make import debt more expensive, Galdeano said: “It concerns us, it doesn’t concern us.”
In this context, Galdeano stated that vehicle production in Argentina this year remains at the plan of 600 thousand units and that in 2024, a year of great uncertainty due to the new policies implemented by the new Executive that will take office on December 10 next: “We hope for a year similar to this one”said.
