Netflix plans to raise the price of its ad-free service once the Hollywood actors strikethe Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday, sending shares of the streaming company up more than 3%.
Netflix is considering raising prices in several markets around the world, but will likely start in the United States and Canada, the WSJ reported, citing people familiar with the matter.
According to the report, it was unclear how much it would rise Netflix the prices or when exactly they would come into effect. Netflix declined to comment on the report.
Negotiations between the actors union SAG-AFTRA and the Alliance of Film and Television Producers (AMPTP)which represents the studios, continue their course and their next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday.
The writers’ union reached a provisional agreement with the AMPTP last week after five months of failed negotiations.
Netflix cut the prices of its subscription plans in some countries in February. That same month, it unveiled a plan to crack down on subscriber password sharing, which was rolled out in more than 100 countries in May.
