In the analogue world, accessing pornography as a minor was relatively complex: you had to steal it from an adult at home, from a colleague, or expose yourself to the salesman at the kiosk or the clerk at the video store. Nowadays, a minor does not need anyone, because he has it at the click of a button and on his own mobile phone. He 50% of children from 11 to 13 years old has seen internet porn. And the 30% of adolescents access it accidentally.

These are data from studies carried out by the Dale Una Vuelta Association in educational centers in Spain, the same association that leads the fight for the effective regulation of minors’ access to porn and that has launched the campaign Generation XXX.

The campaign aims to tackle a problem that not only affects Spain, but all EU countries; That is why the European Parliament office in Spain has joined in to collaborate in it, with the aim of asking greater control in verifying the age of access to pages with sexual content.

The campaign includes an animated video in which three children under 11 years of age access a forest unknown to them at the time; Beyond the fantasy of the graphics, these boys and girls could be anyone, according to the studies.

The overwhelming data stream. He 90% of boys and girls have seen porn before the age of 12according to a study from the University of the Balearic Islands. A content that, furthermore, is far from reproduce relationships and behaviors healthy, Alejandro Villena, clinical director of ‘Dale una Vuelta’, tells laSexta: “Close to the 88% of videos contain physical or verbal aggression generally from the man to the woman.”

This causes violent behavior to worsen: “The message is conveyed to them that sex is something brutal, objectifying, where people are used,” says Villena.

The average for the first viewing is between 9 and 11 years old, this organization points out: “They are forming their emotional-sexual relationship with what they see in pornography,” says its spokesperson Blanca Elía in the video above.

The problem worsens when it becomes an addiction, according to this expert: “We find ourselves in schools with 12-year-old children who They admit to having an addiction to pornography or compulsive use.” Addiction is one of the consequences of this early exposure to pornography, they point out.

For these experts, who rate this generation as ‘pornonatives’consider that this circumstance must be faced as a public health problem.

Apply legislation that already exists

The evidence shows that the controls currently offered by web pages are useless. The Audiovisual Council of Andalusia comes studying age verification measures since 2021 of the Spanish web pages that offered pornographic content, and out of 45 sites visited only 5 They had some system to verify the age of visitors, which also consisted only of a form to which they could answer yes or no to the question of whether they were of legal age.

In this sense, Generation XXX Remember that the European Union has recently approved the Digital Services Law, which already includes the need for platforms to protect minors and implement user age verification systems.

Likewise, there is Spanish legislation such as the comprehensive protection of children and adolescents against violence, which speaks of the need for public administrations to develop “education, awareness and dissemination campaigns” on the consumption of pornography, or the Law General of Audiovisual Communication, more focused on consumption through audiovisual platforms and channels.

Resources to deal with the problem

In addition to the petition, GeneracionXXX includes on its platform a downloadable with support resources for fathers and mothers which has been called “the ABC of Generation XXX.” It offers guidelines, bibliography, and links to basic information. It also brings educators closer to workshops and professional resources available in the Dale Una Vuelta association.

Despite the usual reluctance, experts recommend that parents “talk about pornography with their children.” In any case, they maintain that it is early sexual and emotional education necessary that corrects the devastating effects of early exposure to porn.
