The first interview of the president of Iran, Ebrahim Raisito a Western media outlet, NBC News, comes three days after the first anniversary of the brutal death of Mahsa Amini. His assassination on September 16, 2022 sparked strong protests that for months called for the end of the Islamic Republic.

Raisi has come to describe “incident” the beating murder of Amini at the interview. Likewise, it has been justified with a strange comparison: “The same incidents happen every day in cities “They have used this incident as a project against the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he argued.

The death of the young woman for not carrying well placing the veil unleashed the most massive protests against the regime. Throughout the country you could hear the cry of “woman, life and freedom“. For Tehran, the great social unrest was the fault of Europe and the United States. “It has been a hybrid wara political war, an economic war, a media war and a psychological war against the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Raisi detailed to journalist Lester Holt.

The bloodiest repression in Iran, with 516 dead and 19,200 arrested, was a job well done by law enforcement, according to Raisi. And although he assures that there is freedom of expression, of the press and of speech in his country with these words, “you should know that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always been prepared to listen to those who protest, on any issue, for years.”

Finally, he ended up giving a warning with a clear message: “Whoever puts the security of the country at risk will pay a high cost.” A cost translated into savage beatings, indiscriminate arrests and death sentences.
