The Venezuelan NGO Foro Penal denounced that there are 248 detainees in the country whom it considers to be political prisoners, three fewer than in its last report, published on November 30.
“To date, in the Penal Forum we have registered 248 political prisoners in Venezuela. In addition, 9,420 people are still subject to political criminal proceedings, but under precautionary measures”, Informed the vice president of the organization, Gonzalo Himiob.
The organization indicated that, of the total number of inmates, 234 are men, 14 are women and there is an adolescent, and furthermore, it specified that 116 are civilians and 132 are military.
The Penal Forum pointed out that since 2014 15,750 “political arrests” on Venezuela.
On December 2, Himiob denounced that for the thirteenth time the preliminary hearing of the three activists of the ONG Fundaredes arrested in July, Omar garcia, Rafael Tarazona, released on parole in October, and Javier Tarazona, who is still imprisoned in Helicoide, a headquarters of the Bolivarian Intelligence Service (Sebin).
Fundaredes indicated that same day that Javier Tarazona, his brother Rafael and Omar García are undergoing a process “lacking all legality and all their fundamental rights have been violated”.
