WHO calls to protect children, now those most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic

According to the WHO, cases are currently increasing in all age groups, “with the highest rates currently observed between 5 and 14 years”

The WHO on Tuesday called for greater protection for children, currently the age group most affected by the rebound in the COVID-19 pandemic in Europe, and said mandatory vaccination should be the “last resort.”

To avoid school closings and distance learning, the European section of the World Health Organization (WHO) advises to intensify the tests in schools and study the vaccination of schoolchildren.

“The use of masks and ventilation, as well as regular tests, should be the norm in all primary schools, and the vaccination of children should be discussed and considered at the national level, in order to protect schools,” said the WHO Europe Director Hans Kluge at an online press conference.

According to the WHO, cases are currently increasing in all age groups, “with the highest rates currently observed between 5 and 14 years.”

As for compulsory vaccination, decided or planned by some countries, it should remain an “absolute last resort, only when all possible options to increase the vaccination rate have been exhausted,” according to WHO Europe. (I)
