More than 2,000 years ago, the eruption of Vesuvius destroyed the city of Pompeii, located in southern Italy, in the Campania region. Thousands of tourists visit this little archaeological jewel every year, however, today and thanks to a method known as the casting technique, we can know how the slaves of Pompeii lived, details of their objects. In the video we can see, for example, how one of the beds of the slaves who lived there was left.
As explained to laSexta Gabriel Zuchtriegel, director of the archaeological park of Pompeii, this technique consists of “filling in the marks in the layer of the ash from the eruption of Vesuvius with plaster to obtain something like a kind of photograph”; photographs that freeze those who were his last steps and help us understand how the slaves of the Roman city lived.
The great works that are carried out in the area allow us to recover part of what this city once was. For example, also, thanks to excavation and this technique, it has been possible to rescue work tools, belongings or vessels of the ancient Romans who lived in this Roman city.
