Ford explained in a statement that in vehicles from the years 2020 to 2023 equipped with 1.5-liter three-cylinder engines, the fuel injector may have cracks.

When the engine is running, a cracked fuel injector could cause gasoline or gasoline vapor to collect near hot surfaces, potentially starting a fire.”, said Ford, who estimated that the defect can occur after traveling 240,000 kilometers.

The company admitted that the solution is not yet available, but that as soon as it is, affected owners will be able to go to dealerships for a fix.

Meanwhile, Ford will update the engine management software to detect if the fuel injector is cracked.

In case it is defective, the system will display a message on the dashboard to warn the driver to go to a dealer.

Additionally, if a drop in fuel pressure is detected, the system will automatically reduce engine power to minimize risk and allow the owner to drive the vehicle to safety.

Ford said it will also install a drain tube so gasoline doesn’t seep onto hot surfaces and minimize the risk of fire.
