The Russian Ice Hockey Federation banned Ivan Fedotov from playing for CSKA in 2023
The Russian Ice Hockey Federation (RHF) has banned goalkeeper Ivan Fedotov from playing for CSKA in 2023. It is reported by “Match TV”.
It is noted that the FHR approved the application of CSKA for Fedotov, but he will be able to enter the ice no earlier than January 1, 2024. This is due to the sanctions of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) imposed on the player.
On August 23, CSKA President Igor Esmantovich announced that Fedotov would play for the club from September 1, 2023. “I would not like to interpret the nuances, we did everything legally correct. Fedotov’s contract with CSKA has passed an application in the Russian Hockey Federation, it has been approved in the KHL, ”the functionary said.
On August 14, the IIHF suspended Fedotov for four months. CSKA banned international transfers for a year. The IIHF refused the army team to register a contract with Fedotov for the new season of the Continental Hockey League because of the player’s current agreement with the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League (NHL).
On July 1, Fedotov signed an agreement with CSKA. The NHL expressed dissatisfaction with the decision, as it violates the goaltender’s contract with Philadelphia, concluded in May 2022. At the same time, the Russian tried to fly to the United States, but he was detained in St. Petersburg on suspicion of evading military service. After that, the athlete was sent to serve in the Russian Navy. A year later he was demobilized.
