Denmark confirms 261 cases of omicron variant

Of the 261 total, 73 have been detected by genome sequencing and the rest through a variant of the PCR test.

Danish health authorities confirmed today that the number of registered cases of the omicron variant of the coronavirus amounts to 261, 78 more than the figure reported yesterday, Sunday.

Of the 261 total, 73 have been detected through genome sequencing and the rest through a variant of the PCR test that is so safe that it is considered just as effective, the state Serological Institute explained in a statement.

The director of this organization, Henrik Ullum, described yesterday, Sunday, the number of cases as “worrying” and reported that there are chains of contagion between people who had not traveled or had had contact with others who had been in an African country.

Denmark is one of the European countries that performs the most tests on its population – both PCR and antigens – and that performs the most sequence tests.

The new variant, detected a few weeks ago in South Africa, has created concern about the high number of mutations it presents, which has led to it being classified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a risk variant. (I)
