The Swiss laboratory Roche launches a test to differentiate COVID from influenza

The Swiss group Roche is launching a new test to differentiate the coronavirus from influenza A and B, which will provide a result in 15 to 30 minutes, it announced on Monday.

This antigen test will help clinicians quickly establish a diagnosis.

It will be available, the group reported, in January in countries that accept the CE mark, a mandatory mark of conformity for products sold within the European Union (EU).

Roche also plans to file an emergency authorization in the United States in early 2022.

It is essential that professionals can quickly tell if a patient has coronavirus or flu, especially since the covid-19 pandemic is expanding in the flu season“, said Thomas Schinecker, director of Roche’s diagnostics section, quoted in the statement.

Roche, number one in the world in oncology, also has an important section dedicated to diagnostics.

This test is the 22nd that the group has launched since the beginning of the pandemic.
