A man was arrested this Thursday morning shortly after parachute jump from the top of the Eiffel towerin which he had sneaked in at dawn hours before the monument opened to the public.

Police sources explained to Efe that the security forces were warned at 5:40 local time (3:40 GMT) by the Eiffel Tower security services because they had detected the presence of a man who was climbing the east pillar.

At 6:50 (4:50 GMT) the individual, who was carrying a backpack and whose age and nationality have not been revealed, jumped with a parachute and went to land next to the Émile Anthoine stadium which is in the vicinity, the sources added.

There he was arrested by police officers, who took him to the police station. The Eiffel Tower Exploitation Society (SETE) has filed a complaint for intrusion and by endanger the lives of others.

This incident, which delayed the opening to the public somewhat, occurs after the Eiffel Tower had to be evacuated twice for two false bomb alerts.
