Many current ways of life must be changed, so that from the awareness of the interdependence of individuals with each other and with nature, they point to the care of life and sustainability. Prudence in the use of resources should be part of some kind of collective mentality that defines the human species. Education – as always – is presented, among other actions, as inevitable for us to go in that direction and reach better levels in ecological and social renewal, conservation and prosperity.

Global and local modernity has some elements that identify it. Global warming, which is devastating and threatening in events such as rising temperatures, is one of them. Temperatures exceeding fifty degrees Celsius have been recorded in some locations in the Northern Hemisphere, and winters in the Southern Hemisphere are the warmest on record. The polar glaciers are melting, and so is the snow from the mountains, causing serious problems that harm the environment and worsen people’s lives. Sea level rise affects coastal communities and ecosystems, such as those in some Pacific islands, Venice, New Orleans, Vietnam, the Mekong Delta in China, and many other places. The El NiƱo phenomenon is already showing and is expected to wreak havoc.

All this gloomy panorama is to a large extent the product of the life forms of destructive human beings, which affect the biological diversity of the planet because they change and destroy habitats, endangering the availability of fresh water, food security, public health, especially in vulnerable communities, including us.

We have to stop. We must adopt smarter individual and collective practices aimed at protecting life. Unbridled consumption, promoted all over the world by those who sell indiscriminately, despite the fact that it affects collective life, must be moderated and directed towards more sustainable levels that, given the logic of production and consumption, also vital, achieve better standards of sustainability.

Another element of this era, especially ours, is the extreme insecurity that covers us like a whip, undermining the legitimate right to a harmonious and peaceful life and destroying the destiny of citizens, families and the entire society. We live in pain and despair can engulf the collective soul, almost broken by the big mistakes of everyone, especially the elite of this country who, except for austerity, kept that status because it was their goal, without incorporating their inevitable responsibility for effectively contributing to the development of others.

We have to stop. The model that brought us to this state in terms of the climate and the safety of citizens is no longer sustainable. In order to change, we must develop new ways of being and thus break the deadly paradigm. Can we as individuals do this? Yes, because we are still responsible for our decisions and actions. (OR)
