Fernando Villavicenciocandidate for the general elections of Ecuador, has been murdered in the early hours of this Thursday by a group of hitmen when he was leaving an electoral rally in Quito. The Movimiento Construye candidate was transferred to the Women’s Clinic, where his death was confirmed.

The Ecuadorian Prosecutor’s Office has announced the death of a suspect after being injured during this shooting: “A suspect, who was injured during the exchange of bullets with security personnel, was apprehended and taken badly injured to the Flagrancy Unit in Quito. An ambulance from the Fire Department confirmed his death. The Police of Ecuador proceeds with the removal of the body.”
The shooting has left at least nine injured, among whom are a candidate for the National Assembly and two police officers, as added by the Public Ministry. The President of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, has decreed the Exception status in the country for 60 days.
