At least 11 people, 4 women and 7 men, have died and four more have been injured due to arson in a bar this Saturday in the Mexican state of Sonora, northwest of the country, as reported by the State Attorney General’s Office (FGJE).

In a statement, the Prosecutor’s Office explained that the victims burned to death by the conflagration, which occurred at the Beer House Cantina establishment, located in the city of San Luis Río Colorado.

According to the first investigations, the fire was caused by an attack with a Molotov cocktail on the bar, located just in front of the border wall in San Luis Río Colorado with Arizona (United States).

Among the victims there could be at least one US citizenbecause the Sonora Attorney General’s Office has indicated that a woman was transferred to receive medical attention in San Luis, Arizona.

The alleged culprit is a man who had previously been kicked out of the bar. “Motivated because he was offending and assaulting some ladies who were in that place,” explained Gustavo Romulo Salas, Sonora State prosecutor.

His name is José Luis Limón Espinoza. According to the authorities, It is not related to organized crime. “What we have proven is that he is an isolated attacker who had previously been consuming alcoholic beverages in other places,” Salas said.

The suspect was arrested when he tried to flee to the neighboring municipality after the explosion that killed 11 people. The prosecution claims that he could be sentenced to life in prison.
