He International Monetary Fund (IMF) said on Wednesday that Russia’s exit from the agreement that allowed Ukrainian exports through the Black Sea worsens prospects for global food security and threatens to exacerbate food inflation, especially in low-income countries.
An IMF spokesman said the global lender would continue to closely monitor ongoing events in the region and their impact on global food insecurity.
“The interruption of the initiative affects food supplies to countries that are highly dependent on shipments from Ukraine, particularly in North Africa, the Middle East and South Asia”, stated the Fund.
“Worsens prospects for food security and risks exacerbating global food inflation, especially for low-income countries”.
