The car exports from China to the rest of the world soared 75.7% year-on-year in the first half of this year, according to data from the employers’ association automotive section cited this Sunday by the official Xinhua news agency.
Figures from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) show that between January and June, China exported a total of 2.14 million vehicles.
Of that figure, some 534,000 units were electric cars, a typology whose sales abroad increased by 160% compared to the same period in 2022.
In the breakdown by segments, the advancement of passenger car exports (1.78 million cars exported, 88.4% year-on-year) is much more important than commercial vehicles, which increased 31.9% to 361,000.
The CAAM stressed that Chinese car exports exceeded 2 million cars in 2021 and 3 million in 2022.
In fact, data from the General Customs Administration showed that, in the first quarter, China became the world’s largest exporter of cars by surpassing Japan.
“Cars made in China have become more and more competitive in the global market thanks to strict quality control, a sophisticated industrial chain and advanced maintenance services,” said CAAM deputy general engineer Xu Haidong, quoted by the official Global Times newspaper.
According to another recent report by the employers echoed by the local press, The main international destinations for Chinese vehicles are RussiaMexico and Belgium, although in the case of the electric ones the ‘top 3’ is made up of Belgium, UK and Thailand.
