Ecuadorian Ambassador to Russia presents credentials to Vladimir Putin

To the Ecuadorian ambassador, Juan Fernando Holguín, Putin said that Ecuador is “one of the three largest trade partners of Russia” in Latin America.

The new ambassadors of Brazil, Ecuador, Panama and El Salvador presented their credentials to Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday in an official ceremony in the Alexander room of the Grand Kremlin Palace.

“I want to personally congratulate you on the official start of your diplomatic work in the Russian Federation and wish you success,” Putin said in greeting to the twenty ambassadors present at the event.

Subsequently, the head of the Kremlin dedicated a few words to each of the diplomats who attended the ceremony, while stressing that it was carried out with certain “restrictions” due to the epidemiological situation.

To the Ecuadorian ambassador, Juan Fernando Holguín, Putin said that Ecuador is “one of the three largest trade partners of Russia” in Latin America.

“An important factor for the sustainable development of the Ecuadorian economy is the stable supply of Russian hydrocarbons. In turn, Ecuador’s agricultural products are widely represented and demanded in the Russian market,” said the Russian leader.

In this regard, he added that in a telephone conversation held last August with his Ecuadorian counterpart, Guillermo Lasso, both leaders agreed to “further” promote bilateral relations and maintain an “active political dialogue.”

To the Panamanian ambassador, Rolando Enrique Barrow, Putin said that “this year marks thirty since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Panama” and the parties are determined to continue political, commercial, investment, cultural and humanitarian cooperation contacts.

“Panama attracts the attention of Russian companies as a great logistics and financial center,” which also helps the entry of goods and services to the entire Latin American region, he said.

As for El Salvador, the president highlighted to his new ambassador, Yuri Pavel Santacruz, the relations of “friendship” and “equality” between the two countries, while recalling that Moscow helps the Latin American country to develop hydroelectric projects.

“We are interested in further developing economic and commercial cooperation”, as well as contacts in the field of education and exchanges of specialists.

Addressing the Brazilian ambassador, Rodrigo Baena Soares, Putin affirmed that Brazil is “one of Russia’s most important strategic partners.”

He recalled that both countries cooperate closely in the BRICS forum (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) and the Group of Twenty.

“Taking into account that in 2022 and 2023 your country will have the status of a non-permanent member of the Security Council, we will also intensify our cooperation at the UN on current issues on the international agenda,” Putin told the Brazilian diplomat.

The presentation of the credentials of Baena Soares came a day after negotiations in Moscow between the heads of the Brazilian diplomacy, Carlos França and Russian, Sergei Lavrov, in which both diplomats reaffirmed the desire of their countries to strengthen relations bilateral. (I)
