Israel to buy 25 F35 fighter jets from the US

Israel approved the purchase of a third batch of US F-35 fighter jets, the Defense Ministry announced in a statement Sunday.

“The Ministry of Defense will buy a total of 25 F-35s from the US government, which will be manufactured by the Lockheed Martin company”bringing to 75 the number of devices used by Israeli aviation, the statement specified.

The agreement, worth about 3 billion dollars (about 2.7 billion euros), is financed by US aid funds, according to the same source.

Israel is the only country in the Middle East to possess F-35s, considered to be the best fighter jets on the market today.

“This new agreement will guarantee the continuation of cooperation between American companies and Israeli defense industries in the production of aircraft parts,” add the statement.

The American giant Lockheed Martin had supplied Israel with the first F-35s in December 2016 as part of an order for 50 aircraft.

Israel claimed in 2018 to have carried out the “First operational bombing raids in the world with an F-35″, without specifying against which targets.
