The main Republican candidates for the Presidency of the United States, donald trump and Ron DeSantis, have promised to intensify their crusade in the culture war they are waging in the North American country, encouraged by the latest Supreme Court rulings that represent a curtailment of minority rights and the LGTBI collective.
Trump has gone further by announcing that if he is elected president he will “vigorously enforce” Thursday’s decision of the Supreme Court, which supported eliminating affirmative action on racial grounds in college admissions, and that it will not stop there. “I will end all diversity, equality and inclusion programs in the federal government“, exclaimed the former president.
Conservatives in the US have scored several victories this week with the rulings of the Supremethat Friday supported businesses that do not want to serve LGTBI customers and ended with one of President Joe Biden’s star programs: the cancellation of student debt.
This, one year after the Supreme remove federal abortion protection, overturning the landmark 1973 ruling ‘Roe v. Wade’ by which this right was recognized in the US. A series of failures that have gone ahead, precisely, thanks to the conservative majority of judges in the highest judicial instance of the United States, which was propped up by Trump during his tenure.
In his speech, delivered during a convention of the ultra-conservative organization ‘Moms For Liberty’ in Philadelphia, the former president made his own reading about the current situation in the country: a culture war between “communism” -as he usually refers to everything they represent and defend the Democrats – and the traditional values of their party.
“Our beloved nation teeters on the brink of tyranny, our enemies are waging a war against freedom and faith (…) democracy, family, children and the United States itself. They want to destroy our country,” Trump predicted, who often resorts to these arguments to attack progressives.
Trump was in charge of closing this day of the ‘Moms For Liberty’ convention, a organization classified as “extremist” and accused of promoting an anti-inclusion agenda by the Southern Poverty Law Center, a civil rights NGO known for its legal victories against racist segregationist groups and white supremacists.
In fact, numerous protesters gathered Friday outside the Philadelphia hotel where the event is held to denounce, among other things, that “Moms For Liberty” is hostile to minorities and has harassed local school officials.
