The cities of the Parisian periphery have experienced a night of strong disturbances that have resulted in 24 people being arrested. The disturbances occur after the death of a child under 17 by police shots when he was trying to get away with a car.

Some of the participants caused altercations with the burning of more than forty vehicles and a building of the City Hall of Mantes la Jolie, as reported by the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin. He has made an “appeal for calm” and has assured that the whole truth will be known about the events that are at the origin of the altercations, which he describes as “drama”.

To prevent this from happening again, the French government is going to deploy 2,000 police and gendarmes in these areas.

Murder case is being investigated

The unrest was triggered by the death of Naël, a 17-year-old black youth with a criminal record I was driving without a license and that, after being stopped by a couple of policemen, he tried to escape with the vehicle and was then fatally shot.

A video of the events recorded by a remote witness shows how one of the agents, a 38-year-old brigadier, pointed his gun directly at the minor next to the driver’s window while the other spoke to him on that same side.

The shot was fired as the car accelerated. without directly threatening the integrity of the policewhich, however, was what the policeman who shot the shot, who is in custody, and his partner alleged at first.

Justice has opened two investigations, one for voluntary homicide committed by a person in charge of public authority, which directly concerns the responsibility of that brigadier. The second, for skipping a police control, referring to the behavior of the deceased young man.

According to the lawyer, the reaction of the police was “absolutely illegitimate” and “does not fall within the framework of legitimate defense” because “feeling threatened is not enough to shoot a bullet in the chest.”
