To reinforce epidemiological surveillance before the appearance of the new omicron variant.
The Government of Argentina ordered this Monday the mandatory quarantine for anyone who has been in Africa in the 14 days prior to entering the South American country, while maintaining the suspension of direct flights from that continent to reinforce epidemiological surveillance in the event of the appearance of the new omicron variant.
According to a norm published in the Official Gazette, any person who comes from or has been in the African continent in the last 14 days prior to entering Argentina must inform it in an affidavit and must have completed the vaccination schedule two weeks before the Entrance to the country.
In addition, you must have a negative PCR test performed 72 hours before entering Argentina and perform an antigen test upon arrival in the South American country.
Then you must quarantine and perform a PCR test on the tenth day of the PCR test at source, which must be negative to complete the mandatory isolation.
Non-resident foreigners must add a covid-19 health insurance, with coverage of hospitalization services, isolation and medical transfers.
In addition, the regulatory authority maintained the suspension of direct flights originating from the African continent, which Argentina – which had opened the borders for foreign tourism on November 1 – planned to resume in mid-December.
The regulations published this Monday recognize that “cases have increased” in Argentina in coincidence with the detection of the new variant of coronavirus.
Donations
The Government of Argentina authorized this Monday the donation of 350,000 doses of the Astrazeneca vaccine to Angola, 400,000 doses to Kenya and 30,000 to Barbados, according to three regulations published in the Official Gazette.
Argentina deemed appropriate, “guided by the principles of solidarity and fraternity”, to promote “equitable and timely access to vaccines” against Covid-19, as it considered that it had sufficient stock to make donations “without affecting” its own vaccination campaign.
As reported, as of November 16, 78.5% of the population had at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine and 60% had the complete vaccination schedule.
Argentina has already sent 450,000 doses to Mozambique and 500,000 doses to Vietnam, while according to the Foreign Ministry, other doses donated to the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States are expected to arrive in the coming days: 18,000 to Saint Lucia; 11,000 for Granada; 11,000 for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines; and 2,000 for Dominica.
The regulations recalled that Argentina received donations for 7,063,400 vaccines against covid-19 from the United States, Canada, Mexico and Spain. (I)
