The German Chancellor, Olaf Schölzdiscussed today with the president of USA, Joe Bidenwith that of France, Emmanuel Macronand with the British Prime Minister, Riski Sunak, the situation in Russia and ratified their support for Ukraine.
A spokesman for the German government reported this conversation today, without giving further details about its content, apart from the coincidence between the four leaders in the determination to give Ukraine all the support “for as long as necessary”.
The German government, like the French, has “disadvised” its citizens to travel to Russia and urged those in the country to “avoid” the center of Moscow, as well as any military installations and especially the city of Rostov.
The German Ministry of Foreign Affairs strengthened its warnings to travelers following the “current events in Russia”which otherwise warn of eventual “arbitrary arrests” that citizens with dual German-Russian nationality may suffer.
Along with the explicit inclusion of the city of Rostov among these warnings, it also recalls those that already existed for the entire border with Ukraine, as well as the recent drone attacks on Moscow.
German government sources have also reported this Saturday that it is “following intensely” the situation in Russia.
Berlin’s updated warnings to travelers follows the declaration of rebellion by the leader of the Wagner mercenary group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, who last night claimed to have control of the city of Rostov, in the south of the country, while throughout on Saturday has continued its advance towards the Russian capital.
Russian President Vladimir Putin described as “treason” the uprising started last night by Prigozhin and assured, in a message to the nation on public television, that those responsible “They will pay for it.”
