The Secretary of State for USA, Anthony Blinkenspoke in a phone call this Saturday with the foreign ministers of the G7 and the European Union (EU) to discuss “the current situation in Russia” after the declaration of armed rebellion by the mercenaries of Wagner against Moscow and reiterate US support for Ukraine.
“Secretary Blinken spoke today with the Foreign Ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy to discuss the current situation in Russia”US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller noted in a statement.
In this conversation, Secretary Blinken “reiterated that US support for Ukraine will not change.”
“The United States will remain in close coordination with Allies and partners as the situation continues to develop,” states the statement.
The State Department’s reaction follows the declaration of rebellion by the head of the Wagner mercenary group, Yevgueni Prigozhin, who last night claimed to have the General Staff of the Russian forces in the city of Rostov, in southern Russia, under control.
Russian President Vladimir Putin called it “treason” the uprising started last night by Prigozhin and assured, in a message to the nation on public television, that those responsible “They will pay for it.”
