Venezuela began planting 50,000 oil palm seeds from Indonesiaas part of a cooperation plan that aims at a future export of this product from the Caribbean country, reported this Friday the president of the state-owned Industrias Diana, Félix Romero.
“We are starting the sowing of the 50,000 ‘DAMI MAS’ seeds (…) we are also sowing the new sustainable future of Venezuela and the new projects of Venezuelan palm growing through our Sovereign Palm National Plan”the official said via Twitter.
The seeds, which left Jakarta last week, arrived in Venezuela this Thursday and today were transferred from Caracas to Zulia state, where the first nursery where they were planted is located, and where they will “watch over their growth process until they are transplanted,” Romero said.
This planting plan responds to agreements signed in October 2022, when both governments agreed to purchase 150,000 seeds of Oil palm, which will be spread over some 1,000 hectares of the South American country.
The Chancellery of Venezuela He explained that this cooperation plan “is part of a strategic and comprehensive relationship” in areas such as commercial development, investment, advice and exchange of knowledge and technology “for the strengthening of the palm oil industry.”
“The shipment of new shipments of seeds and the exchange of technology are expected to strengthen the development of the national industry in the areas of planting, harvesting and transformation of seeds into palm oil and its derivatives in Venezuela, as well as its possible export to Latin America. and the world”, added the government in a statement.
