In connection with the promotion of the documentary, the musician told People magazine, where he raised a difficult issue related to his childhood. The 75-year-old opened up in the conversation and admitted that after years he came to terms with his hard experiences and even forgave the perpetrator of his suffering.

The artist said that before the interview, he talked to his son about how acceptance and forgiveness can be cathartic. For the guitarist, the moment of coming to terms with the past was almost spiritual and metaphysical. “I’ve learned to look at anyone who has ever tried to hurt me, humiliate me or make me feel inferior with understanding and compassion,” Santana confided.

The artist referred to a man who sexually abused him for two years when he was a child. After many years, Carlos Santana found the strength and the need to forgive him.

“Hurt People Hurt People”

The guitarist first spoke about his traumatic childhood memories in 2000 in an interview with Rolling Stone. He confessed that he was abused and abused almost daily by a man who befriended his parents. Ten-year-old Santana’s nightmare lasted two years. Today, the musician looks at that time differently.

“There’s a saying that hurt people hurt people. It’s my pain. It happened to me. But if you spread your arms and let it go, you won’t feel it again,” Santana explains his approach to the past.
