- Santa María de Nieva is a sparsely populated area inhabited by Amazonian indigenous people and is located on the banks of the Nieva River, on the border with Ecuador.
- Inhabitants reported the strength of the earthquake in the Peruvian regions of Cajamarca, Piura, Tumbes, Lambayeque, Ancash and Lima.
- The epicenter is located 290 km from the Ecuadorian province of Loja.

- The earthquake was felt in localities of Ecuador (Loja, Machala, Guayaquil, Quevedo, Quito, Cuenca, Durán) and Colombia (Bogotá, Nariño, Huila, Putumayo, Caquetá, Cauca, Cundinamarca, Quindío, Tolima, Valle del Cauca, Amazonas, Risaralda, Meta, Antioquia, Guaviare, Boyacá, Caldas and Norte de Santander).
- In Ecuador, damage was reported to structures in Loja, where a church was cracked and a column collapsed.
- Peruvian authorities have not yet reported personal or material damage from the earthquake.
- In some areas of Peru there were cuts in public services caused by the earthquake.
