They buried her alive, and she gave birth to a child in the coffin. The urban legend gives you chills

According to an old Warsaw legend, a 33-year-old pregnant woman was declared dead and buried in the Evangelical-Augsburg cemetery. The doctor made a mistake, because she was in lethargy, from which she woke up already in the coffin.

Anna Regina Kilemann née Tenger, wife of the royal bookbinder Jan Jerzy Killemann, was buried in 1793 at the Evangelical-Augsburg Cemetery in Warsaw. Her case was described in “Kurier Warszawski” and still raises interest, because according to urban legend, the woman was pregnant, was buried alive and gave birth to a child in a coffin. It is not known why this happened.

The husband had the grave opened

Anna’s husband was distraught because of the death of his beloved wife, who was also expecting their child. Driven by a strange premonition, he ordered the grave to be opened. It turned out that in the coffin there is not only a woman, but also a “posthumously born child”. Another version of the story is that the day after the funeral, the gravedigger heard terrible screams from the grave, so he called his family, who told him to open it. The eyes of the relatives saw a terrifying sight – a woman and a dead newborn. Apparently, as a result of a medical error, the woman was buried in lethargy, from which she awoke in a coffin. There is a scientific explanation of what really happened in the grave: “Probably after the funeral there was a so-called coffin birth, a phenomenon when rigor mortis disappears in the corpse and the muscles begin to relax, and at the same time, under the influence of putrefactive gases, the pressure in the cavity increases abdominal cavity and the fetus is pushed out of the deceased mother’s body. The rest of the story, as you can easily guess, was added by human imagination…” – from the Museum of the History of Medicine of the Medical University of Warsaw.
