He geophysical institute (IG) of the National Polytechnic School of Ecuador reported this Saturday that brightness has been observed in the crater of the El Reventador volcano, located about 90 kilometers east of Quitothe capital of the country.
“During the night and early morning today, incandescence was observed in the crater, accompanied by blocks (pyroclastic) rolling down the flanks, up to 700 meters below the summit”specified the IG in its latest report on the situation in El Reventador, which has maintained a constant eruptive process since 2002.
In addition, The report indicated that frequent gas emissions have been observed in the last 24 hours., water vapor and ash from the crater, the same as They have ascended to about 700 meters above the summit.
Regarding the seismic activity record, the report detailed that on the last day 40 explosions, 13 periods of tremors due to emissions and 20 mild earthquakes of “long period”related to the movement of fluids inside.
El Reventador, 3,560 meters high, is located in a mountainous branch that goes into the Amazon and is one of the most active of the fifty or so mountains that Ecuador has, especially in the Andes, where it forms the so-called “Avenue of the volcanoes”.
Another of the volcanoes that has presented a moderate activity is the Cotopaxi, about 45 kilometers southeast of Quitowhose behavior has decreased since it began a pulse last October.
The IG, in its report on Cotopaxi (5,897 meters of altitude) recorded 20 mild earthquakes of “long period” and 1 of the tectonic vulcano type, related to the internal fracture of rocks.
Likewise, the report indicated that 5 tremors emitting gases and steam have been detected at the level of the crater of this colossus of the Andes.
