French court rejects Russian opponent’s lawsuit against Yves Rocher group

The court of appeal of Rennes (west of France) confirmed the abandonment of proceedings against the Yves Rocher cosmetics group, which Alexéi Navalni accused of “slanderous denunciation”, the lawyer of the Russian opponent said on Saturday.

“It is a totally incomprehensible decision, we are seriously considering an appeal,” added William Bourdon.

In 2019, Navalni and his brother Oleg filed a complaint in France for “slanderous complaint” considering that yves rocher had wrongfully accused them of fraud in Russiawhere the cosmetics group has been established since 1991.

In 2012, the Russian justice system opened an investigation into alleged diversion of funds allegedly committed by the company glavpodpiskaowned by the Navalni brothers, to the detriment of the Russian subsidiary of the French group, Yves Rocher Vostok.

Following an investigation, Yves Rocher claimed to have “discovered several concordant and important clues that made the existence of a scam plausible.”

The company, based in morbihan (western France), then filed a complaint to gain access to the file.

The group later acknowledged not having suffered any harm, but this did not prevent Navalni, the main opponent of Vladimir Putinwas sentenced in Russia in December 2014 to three and a half years in prison with suspended sentence for actions to the detriment of the Russian subsidiary of Yves Rocher.

His brother Oleg received the same sentence, but firm.

Alexei Navalni’s suspension was later revoked, as Russian authorities accused him of violating judicial control measures while recovering in Germanyhaving survived a poisoning attempt.
