“We have to wait. We still need a little more time“. With these words has cooled Volodimir Zelensky the expectation of an imminent counteroffensive of Ukraine to recover the territories occupied by Russia, admitting that the country needs more time to launch the expected operation, while waiting to receive the military aid promised by the West.

This has been indicated by the Ukrainian president in an interview with various public channels, including the ‘BBC‘, published this Thursday, in which he affirms that Kyiv could launch a counter-offensive now but this would come at too high a cost in human lives.

“With [lo que tenemos] we can go forward and be successful but we would lose a lot of people. I think that this is unacceptable,” said the president, who specified that the combat brigades -some of them trained by NATO countries, including Spain– are “ready” but what his army still needs “some things”including battle tanks that are “arriving in batches”.

Kyiv lowers expectations of counteroffensive

Precisely, this Wednesday the Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, already lowered expectations of the counteroffensive in an interview with ‘Bild’, while asking for more weapons.

Do not consider this counteroffensive the lastbecause we don’t know what will come out of it. And if with this counter-offensive we succeed in liberating our territories, then in the end you will say, yes, it was the last one, but if not, then that means we have to prepare for the next counter-offensive,” he declared.

Kuleba also stressed in statements to the German media that Ukraine needs much more weapons for their fight against the Russian occupation forces, citing artillery ammunition, armored vehicles, anti-aircraft defense systems and fighter jets.
