The private companies Claro and Movistar acquired this Tuesday at an auction a spectrum block of 100 Megahertz each to be able to provide 5G service in Uruguay, while Antel -state telecommunications company- will also have its own.
This was explained to the EFE Agency by the director of the Communications Services Regulatory Unit, Pablo Siris, who remarked that what was auctioned on this day was “the service called 5G plus” and that uses the frequency of 3.5 Gigahertz.
“The three companies will be able to provide this service”, he remarked, while adding that to do so they must incorporate the required radio bases.
Accordingly, he stated that:What the companies did today was acquire radio spectrum, which will allow them, with the appropriate equipment investments, to provide the 5G service.”.
On the other hand, he explained that the state company Antel must pay the average of what Movistar paid for its block and Claro for his.
Finally, Siris indicated that Claro’s block goes from 3,300 to 3,400 megahertz, Antel’s from 3,600 to 3,700 megahertz and Movistar’s from 3,700 to 3,800 megahertz.
