A man has been arrested this Tuesday by the British Police after he threw at the gates of Buckingham Palace items “suspected of being shotgun shells“, as reported by the London Metropolitan Police.
“The man has been arrested under suspected possession of a weapon offensive,” the police said in a statement, adding that there had also been a controlled explosion.
The arrest occurred when the Police and security services are preparing for the coronation of King Charles on Saturdayin which huge crowds are expected to line the streets of London and heads of state from around the world attend the formal coronation ceremony.
Buckingham Palace has ensured that neither the king nor his wife Camilla were in the palace at the time of the incident. In the statement, they have indicated that the officers had detained the man and had put him in custody.
They have also confirmed that laces had been placed after the man was found to have a suspicious bag “There have been no reports of gunshots, or injury to officers or members of the public,” said Metropolitan Police Chief Joseph McDonald.
