The case of Masha Moskaleva, a sixth-grader in the city of Efremov, south of Moscow, has become well known in recent days. following a drawing that has caused havoc in his family and an authentic torrent of opinions at an international level. The 12-year-old girl painted the Russian and Ukrainian flags in a drawing on which she wrote “no to war” and “glory to Ukraine.” In the same drew she portrayed a woman with a child and rockets coming out of the Russian flag.
Upon seeing his drawing, the teacher reported it to the school director, who did the same with the police, which has led to severe penalties being imposed in Russia against the family as it is considered to ‘discredit’ the Russian army. Alexei Moskalev, who is a single father, was detained, while the little girl was taken to the juvenile center. The repression against the family for a simple drawing has unleashed an internal conflict in the country.
Proof of this is the image that the punk group Naïve has starred in. Specifically, that of the singer, Alexander Ivanov, who during a concert of his band in Moscow spoke on stage about the Moskaleva case. Wearing a shirt with the girl’s name, Ivanov addressed the public to ask them to keep in mind what happened and report it. The response from the public was overwhelming.
“Realize what has happened to Masha and her family because of a drawing she did for a class assignment,” said the musician in a serious tone before an enthusiastic audience that responded with a clear message: “Fuck the war, fuck the war!“. Since the release of their album ‘Post Alcoholic Anxieties’, in 1997, Naïve have become one of the most popular and commercially successful punk bands in Russia.
