The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported this Friday that the European Union decided to recommend that its member states lift the restrictions for travelers from Peru, a measure that had been imposed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Through a release, Torre Tagle reported that the Council of the European Union updated the list of countries, special administrative regions and other entities in order for these nations to lift travel restrictions on tourists, which included Latin American countries such as Peru, Argentina and Colombia.
The recommendation of the Council of the EU indicates that this list may vary over time so it will be reviewed periodically every two weeks.
The Foreign Ministry also pointed out that, since October 28, 2021, the countries of the European Union travel restrictions have been gradually lifted, and today it was confirmed that travelers from the Peru They will not be prevented from entering European territory.
“The criteria to determine the lifting of the travel restriction are related to the epidemiological situation of the countries and the general response to COVID-19, as well as the reliability of the information and available data sources,” said the Foreign Ministry.
Likewise, each country, under its own regulations, will determine the conditions in which tourists can enter its territory; depending on the epidemiological situation and the general response to COVID-19.
It should be recalled that in March 2020, the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, announced the general closure of the external borders and the prohibition of entry for citizens of other countries except in exceptional circumstances.
The measure was aimed at containing the spread of COVID-19 and preventing the emergence of border controls within the EU.
