The Belgian and German police searched the headquarters of the European People’s Party (EPP) in Brussels on Tuesday in the framework of an open investigation in the German state of Thuringia, in the center of the country, the formation confirmed in a statement.

“The party is cooperating in full transparency with the authorities involved, providing all the relevant information and documentation. As it is an ongoing judicial investigation, the PPE will not make any further comments,” the community party said.

Party sources told EFE the investigation is into a matter of a contractor who worked for the EPP during the 2019 European election campaign and one of his subcontractors in Germany.

The sources ruled out any relationship with the bribery scheme in the European Parliament allegedly linked to Qatar and Morocco, revealed last December.
