On the other hand, 100 kilograms of chicken eggs cost PLN 263.95. According to the National Chamber of Poultry and Feed Producers, the observed price anomalies testify to a large scale of the poultry industry’s imbalance.

– The price anomalies we are currently dealing with are the result of behaviors that are the consequences of this epizootic. Statistically, the virus primarily affects flocks of laying hens, and only to a small extent flocks of chicken broilers intended for meat. Bird flu is harmful not only by directly leading to the physical liquidation of flocks, but also by indirectly stopping the replenishment and expansion of production potential – explained Mariusz Szymyślik, director of analyzes of KIPDiP, quoted by the website.
Specialists estimated that compared to 2022, the egg production potential recorded in January 2023 was approx. 9 percent. lower. The Chamber estimated that the potential decreased by more than 15 percent. According to Mariusz Szymyślik, since the beginning of June 2022, wholesale egg prices have increased by over 123 percent. “Fortunately for consumers, not the entire increase in wholesale prices has been transferred to retail prices” – emphasized the director of KIPDiP analyses, quoted by money.pl.

According to data quoted by the portal, “in the third week of March this year, the average prices of 100 table eggs in packing plants (wholesale), according to data collected by the Ministry of Agriculture, were PLN 81.48 for cage eggs (class L) and PLN 79.39 PLN (class M); barn eggs PLN 90.01 (L) and PLN 81.47 (M); free-range eggs – PLN 94.12 (L) and PLN 86.88 (M).”

In 2022, over 228,000 tons of eggs for the amount of EUR 427.5 thousand were exported outside our country. The eggs went to Germany, the Netherlands, Hungary, the Czech Republic or Italy. Last year, Poland imported approx. 19.8 thousand. tonnes of eggs coming mainly from Germany and Lithuania.
