In 2021, more than a quarter of the funds of the Basque Agency for Development Cooperation went to Africa, according to the report of that year published by eLankidetza. These are 41 initiatives, out of a total of 115, for an amount of €12,647,456 (of the almost 50 million that the agency allocated).
In addition, more than a third of the African initiatives correspond to development cooperation projects implemented in the Horn of Africa, where an emergency situation is being experienced due to famine and lack of water.
However, the objectives of the initiatives, as can be seen in the map below, do not refer exclusively to the humanitarian crisis that leaves millions of people hungry, since these territories are crossed by political, ethnic and social conflicts that aggravate the crisis. and prevent an effective response.
