Humza Yousaf will succeed Nicola Sturgeon as SNP leader and Scotland’s Chief Minister

Humza Yousaf has been elected as the new leader of the Scottish National Party (SNP) and will therefore become the Scotland’s new Chief Minister replacing Nicola Sturgeon.
The current Minister of Health, who presented himself as the candidate for continuity, has received the majority support of the affiliates.
In the first round, Yousaf won 24,336 of the votes, while her main rival, Kate Forbes, Scotland’s finance minister, came in second with 20,559 votes. Ash Regan, for his part, came in third with 5,599 votes.
In the second round, the new leader of the Scottish nationalists won Kate Forbes in the second round with 52% of the vote.
In total, 50,494 people of the 72,169 affiliates have voted, representing a 70% turnout in primary elections that have been held for more than two weeks.
In his first speech, he stated that his priority will be to fight against the increase in the cost of living.
Humza Yousaf will be appointed Chief Minister of Scotland this Tuesday, after a vote in the Scottish Parliament, a mere formality as he has large majorities.
Humza Yousaf, 37, is a native of Glasgow, to a Kenyan mother and a Pakistani father —both arrived in the United Kingdom in 1960—, and will be the first Muslim to assume the post of Chief Minister of Scotland and the new leader of the Scottish National Party ( SNP).
