The Government of France has announced that, with “immediate effect”, the official mobile phones of Administration workers will not be able to download “recreational applications”, a measure that affects the TikTok social network but also other types of services such as be those of ‘streaming’.

The order comes from the Minister of Transformation and the Public Function, after an analysis of the challenges posed by this type of application, “especially in terms of security”, and that various international partners have taken action against the Chinese firm TikTok .

Paris considers that leisure applications “do not present sufficient levels of cybersecurity and data protection to be installed on administration equipment”, for which reason it has opted for a general veto that leaves open, however, permissions in a manner “exceptional” if someone proves that they have “professional needs”.

Last February, the United States Administration ordered the removal of TikTok from all official devices, a decision that has also been adopted by the European Commission. The Chinese government, however, denounces an alleged political intention behind these types of measures.
