The Judicial Power of Venezuela will keep 1,250 courts open throughout the weekend of the regional and local elections, which will be held next Sunday, with the aim of “guaranteeing the rule of law” and attending to any eventuality within its competence, reported this Wednesday the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ).
According to a statement released by the institution, the president of the TSJ, Maikel Moreno, explained that the operation “is activated in order to provide a timely response to the population that will go to the polls to exercise their constitutional right to vote.”
Moreno indicated that the courts will work “within the scope of their competences” within all phases of the electoral day, to “contribute to the strengthening of peace in the population and with the guarantee of making alive what is established in the Constitution and laws”.
In addition, he stressed that each court will maintain compliance with biosafety protocols, to prevent COVID-19 infections during the work around the elections.
Finally, Moreno invited Venezuelans to participate in the November 21 contest and assured that “with each new electoral process that takes place in the country, the democratic will of the Venezuelan population is ratified, while the institutional framework is strengthened. “.
Venezuela will elect a total of 3,082 positions this Sunday, distributed in 23 governors, 335 mayors, 253 legislators to the Legislative Councils and 2,471 councilors.
These elections will be attended, for the first time since 2017, by the bulk of the opposition, including the sector led by Juan Guaidó, after requesting abstention in the 2018 presidential elections and the 2020 parliamentary elections, in which Chavismo obtained 92% of the deputies in contention.
