Incidents have been reported in Nantes, where more than three thousand people have taken to the streets, as well as in Marseille and Rennes. There have also been massive protests in Lyon, Bordeaux, Toulouse and other cities.

In Iparralde, the protest has been peaceful in Baionabut the anger is evident. The unions have advanced that in the next few days there will be large mobilizations.

The decision on the pension reform has plunged President Macron and his government into a great political storm. The controversial reform was approved by decree this Thursday afternoon, under the protection of the article 49.3 of the Constitution, given the impossibility of obtaining sufficient votes in favor in the National Assembly. The prime minister, Elizabeth Borne, has announced that the measure has been approved “out of responsibility”, since “one cannot run the risk of gambling with the future of pensions”. Borne had to speak between screams and screams of the opposition parliamentarians, while the left-wing deputies sang the Marseillaise and called for his resignation.

The decision has brought the immediate announcement of motions of no confidence by opposition parties and groups.

“Borne cannot continue,” the far-right leader Marine Le Pen has said openly, who has stressed that “the vast majority of French people” have spoken out against the government project. Likewise, she has advanced that her group will support any motion of censure, even if she is on the left. “The important thing is not who presents the motion, the important thing is that the government falls,” she stressed.

The left also has a vote of no confidence ready, as stated by the communist leader Fabien Roussel. He has made an appeal to continue with the mobilizations in the streets and has reiterated his initiative to request a referendum. For this it is necessary to present four million signatures.

The motion of no confidence has also been announced by the parliamentary group Libertés, indépendants, outre-mer et territoires (LIOT). The group brings together twenty deputies, centrists, from overseas territories, regionalists and Corsican nationalists.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of the leftist France Unsubmissive, points out that the reform “lacks any parliamentary legitimacy” and does not have support “neither on the street nor among the majority of French people.”
