A goods train derailed this Wednesday after it was hit by a landslide in Sandstonein West Virginia, injuring three staff members and the diesel spill in a nearby river.
As indicated by the United States rail operator in a statement, preliminary information indicates that the four locomotives and nine wagons empty coal bunkers derailed. The main locomotive had three members on board.
This derailment comes only a month after another rail departure in Western Palestine, in the state of Ohio, causing the spill of railcars loaded with vinyl chloride, a highly toxic compound, as well as other dangerous chemicals.
“An unknown amount of diesel and oil from the locomotives has been spilled and environmental measures are being taken to contain it,” CSX Corp, the company responsible for the derailed train, said.
