China announces a 5% cut in its central government employees

The state institutions of the central government of China They will cut their staff by 5%, according to a plan made public today during the meeting of the National Popular Assembly (ANP, Legislative).

Despite the cut -pending approval-, the State Council (Executive) will continue to consist of 26 ministries, says the state agency Xinhua.

The plan is part of a reform of the structure of China’s government bodies undertaken during the meetings of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and the PNA, the country’s main annual political event.

The PNA is scheduled to vote in the coming days in favor of President Xi Jinping continuing in office for a third term (2023-2028).

Last October, Xi revalidated his position as general secretary of the Chinese Communist Party for a third term unprecedented among his immediate predecessors and as head of the Armed Forces.

Thus, the control of the president over the three arms of power will be reinforced: the State, the party and the Army.
