It will be the first meeting between the five Mediterranean countries since the tragic shipwreck of Calabria. Today the Italian authorities have located the body of another child this morning.

The interior ministers of Italy, Cyprus, Greece, Malta and Spain are meeting today in Malta within the framework of the MED5 group, the first meeting between the five Mediterranean countries since the tragic calabrian shipwreck (southern Italy), in which at least 69 migrants died last Sunday.

“Everything is ready for the MED5 meeting to begin in our country. During this meeting, the ministers will discuss a common position on migration and asylum“, has indicated the host minister, Byron Camilleri, on the official website.

Along with the Maltese minister, the Italian Matteo Piantedosi, the Spanish Fernando Grande Marlaska and the Greek Notis Mitarachi will participate, as well as the Cypriot undersecretary Costas Constantinou, according to the Maltese Ministry of the Interior.

During the day there will be three work sessionsat the end of which it is expected that the Mediterranean officials will offer a joint press conference.

The death toll rises to 69

The Italian authorities have located this morning the corpse of another childwhich brings to 69 the number of fatalities, 15 of them minors, recovered from the shipwreck that occurred last Sunday off the coast of Crotone (Calabria, southern Italy).
