The US state of Tennessee has passed a restriction of drag shows on public roads in order to hide them from the view of childrenimposing fines on those who do not comply with the new regulations.
Republican Governor Bill Lee has signed a bill that will restrict public drag performances, making his state the first to do so this 2023as reported by CNN.
The measure, which has been ratified by the House and Senate of Tennesseedefine as ‘lascivious interest’ a cabaret performance for adults as a show ‘featuring topless dancers, go-go dancers, exotic dancers, ‘strippers’, as well as ‘male or female impersonators providing entertainment’. Republicans say the shows expose children to ‘inappropriate’ sexual themes and images.
This type of restriction is the first of nearly a dozen similar bills being considered in other GOP-ruled states, such as the law they approved in 2020 which allowed agencies to deny the adoption of boys and girls to homosexual people for ‘moral and religious convictions’.
The LGBT community, however, has rejected this type of accusation, stating that the proposed measures ‘they are discriminatory’ against the collective and could violate the US Constitution.
