Volga fined 500,000 rubles for throwing a banana at Zenit player Wendel
The Control and Disciplinary Committee of the Russian Football Union (FTC RFU) punished Volga for the incident with a banana thrown at Zenit player Wendel in the country’s Cup match. This was reported to RIA Novosti by the press attache of the Ulyanovsk club Oleg Savinov.
“Yes, indeed, the FTC decided to impose a fine of 500 thousand rubles and one cup match without spectators conditionally,” he said. He noted that they still have the opportunity to appeal, but the team will think about the need to use it.
On February 25, Zenit defeated Volga on the road with a score of 3: 0 in the quarterfinal match of the Russian Cup. At the end of the meeting, an unknown fan threw a banana towards the Brazilian midfielder of St. Petersburg. After that, the footballer urged to fight racism.
