Bolivia investigates the femicide of a young man who was declared missing and later found dead with 19 stab wounds

The Bolivian Prosecutor’s Office reported this Thursday that it is investigating the femicide of a 25-year-old girl who was reported missing in the eastern region of Santa Cruz and who was found dead with 19 stab wounds in a private home.

The victim was identified as María MG, 25, and the main suspect in the crime is her partner, Arturo AC, 27, who was apprehended, reported the Santa Cruz departmental prosecutor, Roger Mariaca, according to a press release from the Ministry. Public.

The event was known on Wednesday night, when the residents of the Santa Ana Santa Ana neighborhood called the Police to report that a strong odor was coming from a room in the house where the young woman was found, the prosecutor specializing in Crimes explained. against life, Francisca Rivero, according to the statement.

The man was hiding in the bathroom “under the influence of alcohol,” says the press release.

The autopsy carried out by the Forensic Research Institute (IDIF) determined the cause of death “hemorrhagic hypovolemic shock, cardiac laceration and penetrating chest trauma by a sharp element,” he adds.

According to local media, the subject was the young woman’s ex-partner and it is believed that he committed the crime at least five days ago, during which the victim’s body remained in the room covered with blankets.

The girl was reported missing on June 14, while the subject had a history of another femicide committed when she was 17 years old, according to the local press.

Between January and the first days of June, 42 femicides were registered in Bolivia, 17 of them in La Paz and 11 in Santa Cruz, according to information from the Prosecutor’s Office.

Women’s rights organizations have been claiming for years that the law against sexist violence in force in the country since 2013 is not fully complied with due to shortcomings such as the lack of budgets and adequate personnel to deal with these events.

The national government declared the 2022 administration “Year of the Cultural Revolution for Depatriarchalization for a Life Free of Violence against Women” in the face of the recurring events that place Bolivia among the most violent countries in the region. (YO)
