The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has indicated on the first anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine that “it has been a year of pain, sadness, faith and unity”. “And this year, we have remained invincible. We know that 2023 will be the year of our victory!” said the Ukrainian president.

Likewise, he stressed that on February 24 “millions” of Ukrainians “made a choice” by defending the blue and yellow flag. “We did not flee, but we faced each other. Resisting and fighting,” stressed the Ukrainian leader.

Zelenski posted this social media messageaccompanied by a video with images of the victims of the war, of the wounded and displaced, of the struggle of the soldiers of the Ukrainian Army, or of the multiple demonstrations in different cities of the world in support of Kiev.

In addition, the Ukrainian president has made a speech to the nation first thing in the morning in which he recalled that February 24, 2022 was “the longest of our lives”, as well as “the hardest day in our modern history”. “We woke up early and we haven’t slept since,” she denounced.

“They threatened that in 72 hours we would not exist. But we survived the fourth day, then the fifth, and today we have been standing for exactly one year. We know that every tomorrow is worth fighting for,” he recounted.

Zelensky thanked the Armed Forces, rescuers or emergency services, as well as partners and allies who have supported Kiev this year.

“Ukraine has surprised the world. Ukraine has inspired the world. Ukraine has united the world,” he said, adding that he was “glad that the international anti-Putin coalition has grown so much.”
