On the day of the start of the special operation in Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin does not plan to address citizens. According to RIA Novosti, this was stated by the press secretary of the head of state Dmitry Peskov, answering the corresponding question of journalists.
A year ago, on the morning of February 24, in a half-hour address, Putin announced his decision to launch a special military operation to protect people in the Donbass, “demilitarize and denazify Ukraine.” A few days before, the head of state recognized the independence of the DNR and LNR.
According to the president, the decision on the special operation was connected “with the protection of Russia itself from those who took Ukraine hostage and are trying to use it against our country and its people.” Putin noted that we are talking about threats from the West, in particular, the expansion of NATO to the east.
In his address, Putin stressed that Russia’s plans “do not include the occupation of Ukrainian territories.” At the same time, according to the head of state, all the peoples of Ukraine should have the opportunity to exercise the right to self-determination, as the inhabitants of Crimea did in 2014.
